Small businesses around ISD

We went just outside the gates of Bashundhara today, to talk to and take pictures of people running businesses. Here is a photo-montage of the people we met, and the goods and services they were selling.

A definition of 'goods'

We wanted a definition of goods that we could work with in the Unit of Inquiry. We got into three large groups so that we could get lots of ideas and improve our group-working ability. We discussed our own ideas, then started to think about what the whole group agreed on. Finally, we came up with three definitions:

1. A good is a thing that we need or want.
2. Something that we need.
3. Something that is useful to us.

Advertising

We will use this Unit of Inquiry to study advertising - the use of persuasive language, imagery, design and the effect that advertising has on demand.

We started off by using a fantastic site that Ms. Grant found, called Skillswise, that has a section all about using adjectives to describe people, places and things to make them more attractive. Click here to get to the site. Have a go at all the sections: factsheet, quiz, game and the worksheet. By the end you'll know what adjectives are and how to use them.
